Fallen temperatures and freezing rain closed I64 in Carter County early
Sunday morning 1/18/09 for approximately an hour.  Leonard Palmer of Chicago was
carrying electronic equipment from the Smithsonian Institute in Washington
D.C. to McClellan Air Force Base in Sacrmento, California, when his
tractor-trailer hit a patch of black ice and overturned.  Reponding to the
scene were Norton-Branch Fire & Rescue, Carter Co. EM Director Tommy
Thompson, and the Kentucky State Police.  Quick Response of Greenup drained
the diesel fuel while Wolfe's and McQuire's Wrecker Service had to
coordinate the uprighting of the truck to prevent further damage to the
cargo and tractor-trailer. Grayson Fire Department responded to several
accidents earlier in the morning as well as Hitchins Fire & Rescue.
